My business is my community!
So it is not only a true pleasure but appropriate that I am actively engaged is making a real difference in my community. To this end, together with my Plumstead and Diep River colleagues, we have teamed up to support ‘Our Mothers Our Fathers’ as well as sponsor and manage the Neighbour2Neighbour project in the Plumstead and Diep River areas.
Our Mothers Our Fathers
‘Our Mothers Our Fathers’ (OMOF) is a unique organisation that started in the False Bay area and is run by a wonderful woman Ann Bishop.
Through Ann’s work with the elderly in the Fish Hoek and surrounding areas, Ann realised there were many elderly people living amongst us who were almost invisible having fallen through the cracks of our society. Through no fault of their own, many were unable to afford essentials and basics. Some of these elderly folk were ex Rhodesians, pensioners who had contributed to a pension in their working lives but no longer received anything. Others had lost everything as victims of fraud or even more tragically, at the hands of their own family!
‘Our Mothers Our Fathers’ provide these carefully selected elderly people with a substantial hamper four times a year. My colleagues and I have, with Ann’s enthusiastic support, decided to include OMOF into the Plumstead and Diep River areas. We will through the assistance of the community and local organisations identify those who are most deserving of such assistance. For more information see www.OMOF.co.za
Neighbour2Neighbour – A helping hand
Together with my colleagues I organise and sponsor an additional community project called Neighbour2Neighbour where we help connect local people and business with elderly folk in our area who need help and assistance.
Example; through Neighbour2Neighbour we can connect a resident in the area who has a car and some free time with an elderly person in their area to provide a safe return shopping trip once a month.
Another example; though Neighbour2Neighbour we will connect with a local hair salon who is prepared to give a free haircut to a needy elderly person. Instead of paying for the haircut, we will give that local salon valuable free marketing in our CapeTownSouth.co.za community directory.
Again we will connect with local community organisations to find such volunteers and identify elderly people in our community in need of support and assistance. For more details see the Neighbour2Neighbour page on www.PlumsteadProperty.co.za
